What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx – local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At TEDx event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

Disruptive Innovation

There's evolutionary, revolutionary and then disruptive innovation. Evolutionary innovation improves a product in an existing market, much like expected. Revolutionary innovation comes with an unexpected bang to that same market. On a totally different level, 'Disruptive Innovation' helps create a new market and value network, and eventually goes on to disrupt the existing ones over a few years or decades, displacing an earlier technology.

Disruptive innovation flows over competition, it means making a clear shift (even if after a while), changing human beings' behaviors and lifestyles.  Think mass produced automobiles, Wikipedia and touch screen mobiles.

               and 10JD for students

    Qamar Ahmad Al-Tarawneh

    Qamar received her bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering from A-lBalqaa Applied University – Faculty of Engineering Technology, Amman on June 2012.
     
    Qamar co-founded and headed  the ETC "Engineering Technology Club", the first student club in the Faculty of Engineering Technology in 2011/2012.
     
    Dema Ziad Zaidan
    Dema received her bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from AlBalqaa Applied University – Faculty of Engineering Technology, Amman on June 2012.
    Dema worked earlier as a software engineer in one a software development company, she is currently working as a lab engineer at Al-Zaytoonah Private University of Jordan.
    Dema's professional society membership included IEEE and JEA.
    Both Qamar and Dema started working on ABJAD  (Deaf – Mute Interactive Tool ) as part of their bachelor's degree; ABJAD was their graduation project. Lately they participated through ABJAD in Queen Rania National Entrepreneurship Competition (QRNEC) and reached the final stages.

    Imad Malhas

    Mr. Malhas holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, USA in 1984. He started as an IT manager in several Jordanian companies and served as the Technical Advisor to the Director of Public Security in Jordan. He later founded IdealSoft producing successful large-scale software solutions. He was one of the founders of National Health Insurance Administration Co. in 1999, the first company to use smart cards for health claims adjudication in the region.

    Mr. Malhas co-founded IrisGuard in 2001 and serves as CEO and Chief Technology Officer ever since. IrisGuard Inc. is considered a world-leader in the field of Iris Recognition Technology, with Offices in London, Geneva, Dubai, McLean and Amman.

    Mr. Malhas pioneered the concept of employing Iris recognition to secure mass-transit national borders prior to September 11th 2001 in the UAE and recently on Jordan borders. More recently, he lead IrisGuard successful deployment of the world’s first iris implementation at banks and ATM machines where customers use their eyes only to draw money from their account (no card and no pin) with a total of six banks in the Middle East and over 100,000 bank customers using IrisGuard technology, this is a solution that has never been done before.

    With his diligent involvement, IrisGuard Inc. manufactures quality Iris cameras out of its UK Laboratories that are well received throughout the world, it has been independently evaluated by the International Biometric Group – IBG (New York) and found to be the world’s most accurate and fastest Iris camera on the market today. The recent addition include the IG-AD100® dual-eye camera system that produces pristine images of both irises simultaneously and the world’s first 0.00% Equal Error Rate. More cameras are planned to suite the various user requirements around the world. New devices continue on being invented by IrisGuard under Mr. Malhas supervision and direct involvement including the EyeSign® home unit, the EyeTust® desktop unit and the EyeFinder® iris payment terminal.

    After working for 8 years as a journalist at DW (Germany's international broadcaster) and as an editor specialized in energy and environmental issues at The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, Bashar Humeid decided with the help of friends and relatives to start a nonprofit enterprise called Meezan. 

    Since 2011 Meezan’s team developed a system called “The Freedom Machine” which combines renewable solar energy production with urban farming on rooftops. Till now Meezan installed 7 machines in Jordan and 
    abroad.

    Meezan’s aim is to convert all rooftops of Jordan and the region into productive spaces and considers that as an essential infrastructure for freedom.

    He is now the Managing Director of a locally incorporated company, Taoseal Telecommunications, and the Chief Operating Officer for Stonethrow Telecommunications, an international innovative company whose sole mission is to deliver disruptive technologies to the world.
